LUTHER BURBANK CHAPTER
The Luther Burbank Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society has a long and distinguished history. It was first established in 1950 when Burbank Middle School was a Junior High School. After a period of inactivity, it was re-activated in 2010 and has been active ever since. Students undergo a selection process which we explain below, and the person who is responsible for ensuring the Society's tenets are followed is the Teacher Adviser. Our Faculty Adviser is Ms. Dulce Mancillas, and she is aided in her work by a committee of volunteer teachers from all our academies.

Ballet Folklorico
BALLET FOLKLORICO- LAS AGUILAS DE ORO

Founded in 1987, Burbank’s after school "Las Aguilas de Oro" Folkloric group has become a community tradition. The group includes students from all programs grades 6 thru 8. It allows any student who enjoys music to participate in healthy exercise in a safe and supervised environment where self-esteem and self-confidence are promoted. Every year, for more than 30 years, the dance group puts on a spectacular Cinco de Mayo program for the Burbank community that includes dance, song, and short skits. In addition, the group performs throughout the year for different community events.
Through the years, many families in the Burbank community have had all of their children perform with the group in some capacity (dancers, stagehands, props, etc.) at one time or another. Some have returned to help instruct the group after they have graduated from high school. Others are now parents and now their children are participating in the group. ……And the tradition continues…..
The Ballet Folklórico begins meeting in October. If you would like to participate, please see Dr. Velasquez in room B205.

Members of the Concert Band and Orchestra need to be enrolled in band during the school year.
Karate KickStart Kids

Karate KickStart Kids
Sponsor: Master Mark Beel
The overall mission of KICKSTART KIDS is to change and save children’s lives. Resiliency is enhanced through the values and philosophies taught through the Martial Arts.
Burbank Middle School was chosen in 1992 to be one of the four schools to participate in a martial arts program. KICKSTART KIDS started as the Kick Drugs Out of America program as a way for students to stay out of gangs and to stay off drugs. Burbank's KICKSTART KIDS currently has an enrollment of 182 students. We continue to offer students a way for them to be a part of a T.E.A.M. Our students are offered martial arts at almost no cost.
Students who wish to participate in a special portion of the KICKSTART KIDS TEAM may join the Burbank Demonstration TEAM. This team meets every week to practice together for special presentations. This team has performed at many events on campus as well as events off campus. The students who participate in this team are required to maintain passing grades and must have excellent behavior. These students are held to a higher standard than many others. We are proud to have earned the title of KickStart Kids School of the Year awarded to us in 2015 and again in 2018 during the UFAF World Championship held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Burbank's Demo Team has won the KickStart State Championship from 2017-2019 and the KSK Martial Arts Mania from 2016-2019!
If you would like to form part of our outstanding Karate team, please see Master Beel in the Karate room, B120.
